To Renovate!

Sand The Furniture
To remove the remains detached from the previous painting and to qualify possible imperfections it is important, first of all, to sand it well.
Furniture With New Function
An old trunk has been converted into a bedside table. He just needed a little waxing.
Protect It Well
To protect the piece, if you are going to reside in a damp place (an exterior, a basement, a cold and damp room …) it is important that before painting, varnish with a colorless varnish.
Inherited Chairs
They loved the tone of the wood of these heritage chairs, so they were rebarnished to, in addition to protecting them from dust or humidity as we have seen, to maintain their original appearance.
Aged Effect
If you do not have aged paint, apply diluted paint in the water on the furniture and let it dry. This will show the wood or the first color with which it was painted.
Two-Color Patina
The furniture under the washbasin and its chair as a whole were repainted in ocher and blue patina, to give it an aged, at the same time current, touch.
Natural State
If the furniture is old but it is kept in good condition, leave it as it is or reinforce the aged effect by sanding it with fine sandpaper.
Dare With The Dark Tones
If the room where you are going to put the piece has a lot of light you can dare to restore an old piece of furniture and paint it in dark colors, like this piece of furniture restored like the mirror.
Classic Gold
The chair, in the French style, has been repainted in gold. Pure elegance.
Have you found an old but beautiful cupboard in the rake of your city? Are you in love with a chest of drawers from the antique shop on the corner a century ago? Do you have a spectacular but shredded table at home? Time to renovate!
With varnish, wax, patina or in gold, we show you the techniques so that your furniture can recover life.
Sanding
Before repainting the furniture, it is necessary to sand it, to remove the remains detached from the previous painting and to qualify possible imperfections. Use sandpaper and rub it always in the direction of the wood grain. Then, rub with steel wool, making circular movements very smoothly, without supporting the wool, so as not to remove all the paint.
About
Does your furniture have woodworm or other insects? Could I get to have them? If so, it is imperative that you treat the wood with an insecticide.
To protect the piece, if you are going to reside in a damp place (an exterior, a basement, a cold and damp room …) it is important that before painting, varnish with a colorless varnish. If the piece will reside in a dry place, applying a little wax will suffice.
Paint
Apply the first coat of paint with straight passes. The second hand, perform it in perpendicular, leaning on the brush.
How do you want to paint it?
In gold
- Clean the furniture well with water, soap and a soft cloth, or a brush if it has many reliefs.
- Sand with sweetness.
- If the furniture is missing a relief, or a small part, you can rebuild it with special putty for wood.
- Apply the paint “metal effect” to give uniformity to the entire furniture.
- To give the final touch, in gold, use the golden varnish, and to repair scratches, a golden pencil.
Varnishing
- Apply a stripper and scratch gel in the direction of the wood to make sure that the varnish that we will apply later, will grip better.
- Sand and clean the dust.
- Apply the new varnish in two passes and sand the piece a little between each hand. Then, let it dry.
Varnish with patina
- Treat the wood before with a layer of colorless varnish by applying it with a brush of thick bristles. Let it dry for two hours.
- Use a brush of about 40 mm thick bristles to apply the paint and a 40 mm long bristle to smooth.
Do you want a current touch? Repaint with patina in two colors, for example, other and blue.
Paint first in other and let it dry for two hours. Then paint in blue. Let it dry for two more hours. Now rub with sandpaper in the places where you want the other color to look. Then rub with steel wool in those same places to reinforce the effect. If necessary, at the end of the work, repaint with a coat of clear varnish to protect the piece.
Wax
- With the steel wool, remove the old furniture wax with removal agent or with alcohol.
- Rinse with soap and water and let it dry before painting or varnishing.
