Staycation! Here are 5 tips to make it fun and relaxing

A swimming pool with a gazebo and patio transformed into a pool bar.

Everyone loves a holiday, right? And what better way to enjoy all the benefits that holiday can bring without the hassle of booking, packing and travelling. Staycations are more popular now than ever and installing a pool in the backyard can provide the ultimate holiday experience. Here are our 5 top tips for making your next staycation fun and relaxing.

Tip 1 – Create a pool bar

For many of us, we know we are on holidays when we are relaxing by the pool in the sun with a cold beverage. You can emulate the holiday experience at home by setting up your swim-up bar. Either alcoholic or non-alcoholic here are some options to consider when choosing refreshments:

  1. Dried and fresh citrus fruits for garnishes
  2. Ice
  3. Alcohol (if you choose)
  4. Mixers
  5. Fresh fruit for cocktails/mocktails

You can personalise your bar to suit your tastes and preferences. Expand your horizons and try a new drink that you’ve never made before, after all when we go on holidays it’s all about trying new and exciting experiences.

Tip 2 – Buy a hammock or lounger

Once you’ve prepared your icy cold drink from your bar, you will need somewhere to drink it, whilst you’ll probably be in the pool most of the time you’ll need somewhere to sit when you’re not. A hammock or lounger provides the perfect place to kick back and soak up the sun until your heart’s content.

Tip 3 – Invest in a spa or go for a massage

If you don’t already have a spa now is the ideal time to invest in one. Nothing is more relaxing than sinking into a warm spa whilst thousands of bubbles propel into your achy muscles to soothe and massage your entire body. Soaking in warm water whilst being massaged by spa jets can create a sense of euphoria leaving you feeling rejuvenated and distressed. One of the best things about having a spa at home is that you don’t have to share it with strangers. Alternatively, if your budget does not allow for a spa at this moment book in at a day spa for a massage to fully immerse yourself in holiday mode.

Tip 4 – Invite some people over to join you on your staycation

Having a holiday at home means you can invite whoever you want to join for no additional cost. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with everyone and is a great source of entertainment whilst you are on your staycation.

Tip 5 – Dive in movies

If you want to bring fun to your pool and staycation – who doesn’t? You can’t go past DIY dive-in movies. There are a few ways you can go about creating your movie theatre in the pool area. For a superior viewing experience consider installing a TV or projector in an area that can be seen from the pool. There are a variety of waterproof options on the market. If outdoor TV’s are not in your budget, have a quick search on the internet, there are some smart ways you can use your smartphone to make a projector.

You will need seating options for the pool such as blow-up inflatables or if you would prefer to sit outside the pool, you will need to have an outdoor appropriate lounge or alternative. You can’t go to the movies without popcorn or snacks, so you will need a refreshment bar. Include snacks and drinks of your choice and make sure it is easily accessible from the pool this way you won’t miss any of your movie by having to go and fetch a drink or something to eat. Outdoor movies are especially great in summer when its too hot inside, the pool makes a perfect spot to relax and watch a movie. Ensure the pool area is well lit to avoid accidents.

Benefits of a staycation

Convenience

Going on holidays means weeks of preparation and a lot of time is spent travelling to get your destination in most cases. It can be tiresome and even stressful at times, having a staycation means you are instantly on holidays without having to plan a single flight, pack any clothes or outlay hundreds or thousands of dollars to get out the door.

Opportunity to explore your backyard

More times than not we book holidays that are in a completely different state or country. Taking a staycation enables you to discover great things that your area is offering. Try a restaurant or cuisine you have never had or check out what recreational activities your area has that will make you feel like you’re on holidays. Some ideas include:

  1. Paddleboarding
  2. Jetskiing
  3. Quad biking
  4. A picnic, include some local produce, drinks etc
  5. Bake
  6. Art, craft, cooking or floristry class

Enjoy the serenity

When going on holidays dealing with crowds is inevitable. Enjoy the peace and quiet of your own space without having to deal with other people.

Save money

Yes installing a pool is expensive, however, it is an investment that you can enjoy for decades to come whereas holidays are short-lived. By vacationing at home rather than holidaying, you will quickly recoup your investment so its win, win.

Environmentally friendly option

Staying at home to holiday reduces your carbon footprint, it’s a much more eco- friendly alternative.

The ultimate staycation experience includes a pool

A pool can provide you with a lifetime of staycations and it can be used year-round to escape the daily grind not just when you need a holiday fix. One of the many great things about fibreglass pools is they are quick and easy to install so it could take less time put in your pool than it does to organise a holiday. Generally, fibreglass pools can be installed in 1 to 3 weeks.
