What tools do you need to stay on top of your garden?

A group of gardening tools and flowers.

There are an estimated 27 million people in the UK who would be classed as a typical gardener and more of us are taking it up at a younger age. Though the average age of a gardener is on the older side, that number is decreasing as more people in their twenties and thirties develop a green thumb.

If you’re an avid gardener, then you know that there’s nothing worse than an unkempt garden. You want to ensure that you have the best tools to keep your garden as clean and tidy as possible. The better tools you have, the easier it will be to keep on top of the garden.

Lawn mower and edger

This is almost a given for all gardens, enabling you to cut any grass and trim its sides to keep it pristine. There is a wide variety of different lawn mowers and edgers from which to choose. You could choose a cordless electric lawn edger, with corded or petrol options also available and the same breadth on offer for mowers. However, if you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint, the corded or cordless models are significantly greener choices.

Bucket and spade

Similarly, there are very few avid gardeners who wouldn’t want a bucket and spade on hand. Both are incredibly helpful all-purpose tools, vital for when you want to carry around compost or tools, or dig up specific areas of your garden.

Gardening gloves

These are a necessity if you want to get involved in the garden; nobody wants to deal with thorns or splinters. There are a huge range of different gloves available for all hand sizes so don’t worry about being able to find the right one – just make sure you get a pair!

Hand trowel and fork

A hand trowel is essential for anyone who is looking to plant, move plants or pot new ones. If this is something that is done frequently in your garden or if you’d like to have more plants, then a hand trowel is a necessity.

The fork is also a great tool for those who are looking to start planting some seeds and even aerate the lawn. It’s also a great tool that can be used to remove any weeds or unwanted stones from your garden.

Wheelbarrow

If you’re planning on doing some tidying up and general gardening, then you are going to want to use a wheelbarrow. It’s the most convenient way to move heavy objects around your garden with ease, and the perfect companion for those of us who enjoy gardening or just want to keep it as tidy as possible.

These are only some of the basics – none of them are a necessity but all of them will make your gardening life much easier. There are plenty more different tools available to help keep your garden in pristine condition but these are a great place to start.
