In the scenic embrace of Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain lies Glen Villa, a contemporary masterpiece that exemplifies the seamless blend of modern architecture with the raw beauty of nature. Designed by ARRCC, a leading architecture and design firm, this project represents a harmonious fusion of luxury, comfort, and the African landscape.
Architectural Marvels of Glen Villa
Completed in September 2022, Glen Villa stands as a testament to architectural innovation and design excellence. Nestled on a generous expanse, the villa’s architecture, originally conceived by Antonio Zaninovic, has been thoughtfully extended by ARRCC to include a captivating garden pavilion and a majestic penthouse master suite. These additions not only enrich the villa’s aesthetics but also strengthen its connection with the breathtaking city and mountain vistas.
Interior Design – A Symphony of Luxury and Nature
The interior redesign by ARRCC transforms Glen Villa into an enclosed paradise. The wine room, enclosed within glass walls, and the expansive terraced lawn are just glimpses of the luxurious amenities. The design ethos marries contemporary lines with the organic essence of the mountainside, creating an “urban resort” that is both sophisticated and inviting. Jon Case, ARRCC Director, envisions this space as a sanctuary that balances the modernity of urban life with the tranquility of nature.
A Fusion of Raw Materiality and Refined Elegance
The pavilion, an extension of the villa’s architectural language, is a space where raw materials and refined design converge. Bespoke elements, like the custom-designed dining table and the striking brass fireplace, are standout features. The interior’s palette combines raw concrete, hewn stone walls, smooth marble, bleached timbers, and brushed metals, creating a tactile and visually engaging environment.
Collaborative Efforts and Local Artisanship
The project is a collaborative masterpiece, blending the creative insights of ARRCC’s interior designers, Mark Rielly and Nina Sierra Rubia, with the vision of the client, Shari Kennedy. Their Afro-minimalist approach resonates with the villa’s architectural shell, showcasing a narrative that is uniquely African yet universally appealing. The contributions of local craftsmen, including OKHA, Martin Doller, and David Reade, highlight the region’s rich artisanship.
Master Suite – A Realm of Luxury and Comfort
The master suite is a realm of understated luxury. Clad in cedar strip and bronze, it offers a haven of comfort and elegance. The master bathroom, centered around a feature bath, boasts stunning views of the cityscape. The custom-designed bed, perched on a marble base, not only exemplifies luxury but also enhances the panoramic views.
Conclusion
Glen Villa stands as a serene and characterful space, deeply integrated with its natural setting. It is a vivid representation of ARRCC’s commitment to a contemporary African design narrative that harmoniously blends urban sophistication with the natural world.
