The teenage years, specifically between ages 13 and 18 were immensely confusing for all of us. This is the time where they become individuals, they begin developing interests on their own and evolving into the adults they will soon become. This being the case, they should have an area to themselves for self-expression and socializing. But designing a bedroom for the picky teenager in your life can be a bit tricky.
The most important part of the bedroom, believe it or not, is not the color scheme or theme surrounding it but the structure and function of the room. A pretty or cool room wouldn’t mean much if it didn’t fit the needs of the owner. There are three specific area that a teenager’s room should possess:
1. Sleeping Area
2. Homework Area
3. Socializing Area
Of course that does not mean the room needs to be massive. A bed, desk, and a chair could suffice.
The next most important part is the color scheme and theme/style of the room. This is the fun part of designing a teenager’s room. They are not yet adults and can express themselves without worrying about having a mature space. This being said, many teenagers would prefer a more ‘adult look’ with a bit of youthful personality.
This is what distinguishes a teenager’s room from an adult’s: personality and character. They have the ability to use bright colors and lively patterns and make their room represent their interests.
