Over time light fixtures can become blah, boring or just outdated. All of the unique or wonderful looking light fixtures can put a major hole in your wallet, though, so what can you do? Cheaper ones aren’t always the best looking, and sometimes all the thrifts stores have are beaten up, rusty ones. Luckily, there is a way to make a custom light with a variety of materials without having to pay a pretty penny for a craftsman to make you a one- of- a- kind light. Why? Because you’ll be the artisan! By making a DIY light fixture, you can pick your own materials, colors, sizes, etc while having a fun activity to do with your children or on a free night! **GALLERY BELOW WITH MORE IDEAS**
String lights are gaining popularity and depending on what your room’s desired aesthetic is, you can make it look relaxed or preppy to fit the vibe. For the color- lovers, you can try to paint the strings! All you have to do is blow up a balloon, make paper mache glue and place it on the balloon, then wrap the string around… then wa la! Once it’s dry you can pop the balloon and place it around your light. These are perfect as they can be any size you want. This can also be done with doilies as well.
See- through materials. You can also opt to buy a regular light shade (that allows for light to come through) and glue see- through fabric on top. Cut them into fun shapes or strips to create different fixtures that will fit into your room design!
Unique holders. This is a fun way to spruce up a DIY light fixture. Find something that is sturdy enough to hold your light bulb or wrap around the wire (make sure it’s inflammable!). The picture above is a great example for nautical-themed rooms.
