Geometric patterns are coming on strong in today’s interiors.  Decorating with geometrics adds fun and dimension to a room.  Furniture, floor and wall coverings, fabrics and accessories all boast bold and wonderful designs that give interiors a modern flair.

When decorating with geometrics it is best to keep an eye on scale.  If you are using more than one shape in a room, vary the scale by using just one bold geometric and use smaller ones to complement the overall design.  Coordinate colors to those used in the room and use a limited palette to avoid a cluttered, clashing look.

Hexagons, diamonds and the Greek key are geometric designs seen in fabrics, floor and wall coverings, furniture and accessories.  They give a layered look that brings depth and sophistication to a space.  To further enhance a space using geometrics, layer different patterns starting with a large scale rug and finishing the look with accents.  Keep scale and color in balance.

For a subtle display of geometrics, an area rug or painted wood floor is the perfect piece.  Mirror the pattern of the rug or floor with throw pillows or decorative objects.  Just these few touches of geometrics gives an otherwise toned-down space a bit of lift.

Conversely, go bold when decorating with geometrics by incorporating varying geometric shapes in contrasting colors.  Large and small scale geometrics mixed together make for a lively modern space that bursts with personality.  Go for a bold rug, add a contrasting pattern on window treatments, and integrate boldly colored geometric accessories.

Geometrics mixed with traditional pieces adds a bold statement and gives the space a modern twist.  Small touches such as art, accessories, or even trim on fabrics can bring pizzazz to a room.  Lamps, light fixtures and accent furniture with geometric designs make a great counterpart to a traditional space.
